On April 12, 2025, Larkin Poe brought their electrifying Bloom Tour to The Depot in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Nashville-based roots rock band, led by sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell, delivered a powerful performance filled with grit, soul, and sisterly chemistry that left a lasting impression on the crowd. The Depot, with its intimate setting and top-tier production, was the perfect venue for a show that was equal parts heartfelt and high-energy. I’ve photographed a lot of shows at The Depot. It’s one of my favorite spots. The security team and entire staff are always awesome, and it really does feel like every show there is special.

Early last week, The Complex welcomed Scottish art-rock band Franz Ferdinand for an intimate sold-out show at The Grand on their The Human Fear tour. Hundreds of casual and hardcore fans came out this Monday evening to experience a set full of groovy and electric energy, with plenty of new and old songs to get everyone in the room jumping. The group put on a spectacular show by showcasing their musical expertise and joy of performing, and it was a treat to witness a very integral indie band do what they do best.

“This may be the best night of your life so far, fingers crossed, and I say so far because life is very long and it’s also fleeting, if you want me to get deep with it, but for real it means the honest world to us that you guys came here and put us on this stage right now. So thank you Salt Lake City, make some MTF noise!” shouted Mitchel Cave, the lead singer for  Chase Atlantic. The energy inside of the Rockwell at the Complex was electric when both  Chase Atlantic and 24kGoldn took the stage. The entire west side of Salt Lake was shaking from the audience jumping along to the songs during the sold-out show on November 13th.

I have been a Weezer fan for as long as I can remember. When it comes to ranking my favorite bands, they come second only to The Beatles. It was actually at a Weezer concert a few years ago that I first felt the desire to become a concert photographer. Just a few months later, I covered my first show. I had no idea just how much one Weezer concert would change my life.

On Wednesday, June 5 the Red Hot Chili Peppers brought their Unlimited Love tour to Utah’s First Amphitheatre. It was no surprise that the show quickly sold out. Utah fans have waited 18 long years for the band to return. Their last concert in Utah was in 2006, Their performance was the 3rd to last concert at the original Delta Center before the name changed to Energy Solutions Arena. I found it interesting that their long-awaited return to Utah marked the 3rd concert at the newly named Utah First Amphitheatre (formerly USANA Amphitheatre.)

Friday, August 4th was another excellent night for the SLC Twilight Concert Series. Thousands of local music lovers gathered downtown at the Gallivan Center for the sold-out show featuring co-headliners The Head And The Heart, and Father John Misty. This was a show I had been excitedly anticipating for quite some time. I have been listening to The Head And The Heart since they began. They have become one of my favorite bands. So in February, when they announced their 2023 tour dates and locations, I quickly scanned the list, hoping to see Salt Lake City.

Thrice played at the Union Event Center in Salt Lake City Tuesday, June 13th. They brought along with them Holy Fawn as the opening set. I didn’t really know much about the opening band except that they guest appeared on Thrice’s re-recorded album “The Artist in the Ambulance.” in the song “Paper Tigers” which the re-recording has a much fuller sound. It’s a good one to compare side by side and notice the small differences.

Have you ever made plans to go to a concert knowing you were in for a good night?  The lineup is great, the venue is cool, and the company you’re rolling with is just who you want to be with.  And while you know there is no way this particular concert can wrong, unless there’s some natural disaster or unforeseen incident, this concert far exceeds any expectation you might have had.  Well, that was the case at Ogden Twilight with The Shins and their special guests JOSEPH.  I knew I would like this concert.  How could I not?  Two amazing bands in one night.  But somehow, someway they exceeded my already high expectations.  This concert was incredible.
