I have found that whenever a vocalist in a band decides to go solo, things can go one of two ways.  They create something interesting, and enjoyable and I become a fan of their work outside of the band from where I know them. The other is they try too hard to be different from the music we know them from. Or they aren’t able to put an album of songs together without their bandmates that their fans can connect with enough.  I can understand the desire to try to make your own music and create an album trying different styles and techniques.  It can be a risk, but I can’t blame an artist for wanting to do that.  I personally enjoyed Lauren’s debut solo album, Vicious Creature.  It was exciting to see that Mayberry announced a show in Salt Lake City.  I couldn’t wait to hear these songs live.

On April 27th, Salt Lake City had the pleasure of welcoming Pennsylvannia-native Taylor Acorn to the Soundwell stage where she played for a sold-out audience. The venue brimmed with excitement as people overflowed into nearly every corner of the building. Among the concertgoers were several dedicated young fans watching their first live concert with posters in hand. With catchy hooks and intoxicating melodies, it’s easy to see why Acorn’s music has such an appeal to music enthusiasts of all ages. Well before the concert even began a staggering line was already congregating to purchase some of her hottest tour merch, including what seemed to be a favorite—some signed polaroids taken prior to the show. Taylor’s Good Enough tour was joined by LA-based band World’s First Cinema who opened the night with a pop-rock performance of their own.

Chappell Roan is a pop singer-songwriter based out of Los Angeles. She brought her Naked in North America Tour to Soundwell in downtown Salt Lake City on Mar 9, 2023.  Like all of the other dates on this tour, the show at Soundwell was sold out.  I found this to be extremely impressive for someone who hasn’t released a full album. Only one EP and a bunch of singles.  Sure enough, I walked into the venue and it was packed

The Soundwell buzzed with excitement as I entered the doors Thursday night. The crowd gathered closer to the barricade at the front of the stage as Lexi Jayde introduced herself. I could feel the excitement of the fans as she began to explain the story of her music. She opened with her new single “Self Sabotage”. She really connected with members of the crowd who have recently gone through a breakup. Revving up the energy saying “You f**king got this! Whoever needed to hear that. I love you so much.”
