The “stars” on the ceiling of the Eccles Theater felt like a snowy scene when the Christmas band, Mannheim Steamroller, took the stage in SLC on December 16th, 2024. As the crowd filed into their seats in their fanciest holiday outfits, holiday cheer was undoubtedly in the air.
Close friends and singer-songwriters Chelsea Cutler and Jeremy Zucker brought their Brent Forever Tour to Salt Lake City, Utah this last weekend. One of only twelve stops on the tour, and second to last, both Chelsea and Jeremy brought passion, pain, and love to the stage in a full yet gentle force. Normally touring separately, the pair, who’s musical Ven diagram shares three EP albums, decided to focus a tour specifically on those shared albums and hit the road on the Brent Forever Tour. Fans of Chelsea and Jeremy were especially excited as this was the first time Cutler and Zucker had teamed up on tour. With them on their Salt Lake stop the pair brought special guest and indie folk artist Ethan Tasch.
This last week, alternative indie band The The, led by the ever-enigmatic Matt Johnson, made their way to Salt Lake City Utah, playing their “Ensouled” world tour at the Eccles Theater. The much-anticipated return of The The to the music scene was prefaced with “Ensoulment”, a new album released by the band earlier this year. The Utah-based audience that had crowded into the theater was treated to a near-perfect night of music across a vast musical landscape that included everything from new wave, alt-rock, post-punk and so much more. For many it had been 20-plus years since they had seen the band live, truly marking the performance as one to bring back old memories whilst cementing new ones!
To the excitement of many, the Legendary alt-rock band The Fray brought their “The Fray is Back” tour to Salt Lake City, Utah this last week as they played a sold-out show at The Complex. With them, they brought the ever-so-talented Rett Madison. Returning from a recent five-year hiatus and with fans of all ages anxiously packed into the Grand Room at the Complex, The Fray delivered a perfect emotional alt-rock set that was just what everyone had come for.
Alternative band, more specifically Dream Pop band, Cigarettes After Sex returned to Utah just over a year after they played a sold-out show in Ogden. Cigarettes After Sex was part of the 2023 Ogden Twilight Concert Series lineup. Not only were they part of the lineup, but the show was one of the most anticipated in the series. The show sold out and people were paying a premium on the second-hand market just to get in. While I wasn’t surprised that the band would be returning to Utah soon. I must admit that I did not anticipate them playing the Delta Center. Not only did they play the premier venue, they sold it out!
In the past decade, there hasn’t been a year that has gone by where I haven’t seen The Lower Lights in concert. Over that time I’ve seen this band more than any other. Typically I’ll catch one (sometimes two or three!) of their holiday residency at Kingsbury Hall on the campus of the University of Utah. Those concerts are a Christmas tradition that I refuse to miss. In the last couple of years, in addition to the Christmas concerts, The Lower Lights have gone back to their roots and performed non-holiday shows filled with classic hymns and old spirituals sprinkled with some more modern classics. Last year they played Sandy Amphitheater to great acclaim. For the first time in ten years, The Lower Lights returned to the Masonic Temple in Salt Lake City. A venue where they played many of their early now legendary shows.
Cera Gibson will be headlining the opening night of the Mind the Gap Festival in Salt Lake City. She’s not only playing Soundwell on Friday night, August 22, but she’ll be debuting her new single, “Eclipse”. We had the opportunity to chat with Cera leading up to the show and release. Enjoy!
Earlier this month, in the heart of Salt Lake City, Jade Bird graced the stage in a quaint intimate venue called The State Room. If you’ve never been there, It’s a charming theatre with a decently sized floor and layered seating. Above the center of the room, hangs a giant mirrorball. When I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the room and stage. It wasn’t too stuffy, but cozy. For a show that wasn’t completely sold out, I had plenty of room to shoot from anywhere. I was excited to be here, not only for the first time but to shoot at a new venue. I’m always worried about the lighting of small venues, but I had no issues here. AND I had a mirror ball to add a touch of flare to these glowy shots I was about to get.

On Saturday, March 9th, multi-platinum pop-rock band LANY, brought their A Beautiful Blur tour to The Delta Center in the heart of Salt Lake City. The Los Angeles-based band consists of lead vocalist Paul Jason Klein and drummer Jake Clifford Gross. The duo performed an incredible and non-stop entertaining show to a packed house. The band made it clear that their top priority was their fans. Although it was LANY on stage, they kept the crowd in the spotlight all night. The way Klein interacted with the audience was above and beyond what I typically see at concerts, and it brought an exciting energy to the show. I am convinced that the connection between the band and its fans is a big reason they have such a loyal following.
Greta Van Fleet rocked the Delta Center with an unforgettable performance! The four-piece rock band delivered an electrifying show that was full of energy and emotion. From their hits to their more recent singles, Greta Van Fleet had the audience singing along and enjoying every moment. The audience was taken on a journey through the band’s music and left feeling uplifted and inspired. It was a powerful performance that showcased why Greta Van Fleet is one of the hottest acts in rock music today.
