From Disney star to lead singer of a band with his brother,  Ross Lynch is making his impact on the music industry. With their Summer 2022 Tour, The Driver Era brought two acts to support the show. The first band coming along on this tour was Almost Monday. They were followed by Summer Salt. It is a pretty fun lineup to see live. The Union Event Center is a very fun venue and perfectly suited the bands visiting.

Fits and the Tantrums & Andy Grammer w/ Jade Jackson• August 18, 2022• Sandy Amphitheater

On Thursday, August 18th, Fitz And The Tantrums brought their “Wrong Party” tour to the Sandy Amphitheatre. They brought along with them co-headline Andy Grammer. It has only been six months since Andy Grammer’s last concert in Utah. I also had the opportunity to attend that one. He had released some new music since then, so I was excited to see what would be different. I was not too familiar with the band Fitz And The Tantrums. But by the night’s end, I realized I knew more of their songs than I had expected. The evening was full of the most positive energy and exciting music. Walking around the venue, I noticed far more children than I typically see at concerts. For many of the young music lovers in attendance, this was their very first concert experience. It proved to be a show that will be hard to top.

Big Time Rush• Spencer Sutherland• August 18, 2022• USANA Amphitheatre

Big Time Rush & Spencer Sutherland brought the Forever Tour to Utah. And it sold out USANA’s pavilion seating on Thursday, August 18th! For the second to last show on the tour, fans donning Big Time Rush T-shirts or particularly dressed up for the occasion flooded into the amphitheater. Many of them had homemade signs under their arms with the hope of catching one of the performer’s eyes! It was the perfect night for an outdoor concert – not too hot, not cold, and, thankfully, no rain!

Cuco• SLC Twilight• August 16, 2022• Gallivan Center

The third week of the Salt Lake City Twilight Concert Series brought out a massive crowd. Although I was only able to attend the headline set, I was still very impressed with the turnout. The Gallivan center was the venue of choice for Mexican American artist and record producer, Cuco. With a large social media following, the crowd was no surprise to his loyal fanbase. However, having not heard of Cuco, I was incredibly surprised by his popularity.

The Head and the Heart w/ Dawes• August 8, 2022• Red Butte Garden

On the 6th night of their Every Shade of Blue tour, Indie Folk band The Head and The Heart put on an unforgettable concert for a sold-out crowd at Red Butte Gardens. Tickets sold out shortly after they were released, and thousands of excited fans came ready to be entertained. With such beautiful landscaping and scenery, Red Butte felt like a perfect setting for a band like The Head and The Heart. As a long-time fan of the band, this is a concert I had been looking forward to.

The summer of 2022 will be remembered by music fans as the summer when concerts were back in full force.  Sure concerts started rolling in by mid-summer 2021.  But this summer it seems every band ever is on tour.   Most days have multiple options for live music fans to choose from.  Often it’s a very difficult choice that has to be made.  I have found myself making difficult decisions on a daily basis trying to figure out who I should see.  But on August 5, 2022, there was only one choice.  The opening night of Imagine Dragons Mercury Tour w/ Macklemore and Kings Elliot.

SLC Twilight

Twelve years after their first Twilight performance, The Decemberists returned to the Salt Lake Twilight Summer Concert Series. I was excited for the opportunity to join the many fans gathered at The Gallivan Center to see the Portland-based indie rock band. The Decemberists may have brought their hometown’s rainy weather along with them, but that didn’t stop everyone from having a great time. The concert was the band’s 5th stop on their Arise From the Bunkers tour. They were formed in Portland in 2000, and the band consists of Colin Meloy (lead vocals, guitar), Chris Funk (guitar, multi-instrumentalist), Jenny Conlee (piano, keyboards, accordion), Nate Query (bass), and John Moen (drums).
