The warm summer night had Metric fans of young and older generations having the best time of their lives. Fans of Metric, Broken Social Scene, and Stars were dressed in full handmade outfits of their merch, had bright colored hair in pinks and greens, and had an electric energy that was contagious. The night was filled with fun, friendship and all the feels on the “All the Feelings Tour”

Stars

The Canadian band, Stars, set the night off right, bringing a mesmerizing combination of vocals and a distinct jazz undertone to the stage. Early in the set, the band shared their gratitude, saying, “Thank you so much for coming to our show, We’re Stars, and Broken Social Scene, and Metric. We’re from Canada, and we are so in love with this moment, thanks for having us.” to which one member of the crowd shouted “I love you” very loudly and lead singer Torquil Campbell shouted “I love you back” and the same member of the crowd yelled “Thank You” making the rest of the crowd laugh and giggle.

Despite facing a few technical difficulties with the sound cutting in and out, the band recovered extremely well, like true professionals. The crowd even stepped in to clap along to the beat to keep the band going, and the band made the best of the moment and kept playing, singing, and dancing on.

Lead singers, Torquil Campbell and Amy Millan, looked as if they were having the best times of their lives on that stage, dancing around together, interacting with the other members of the band, and at the end of their set, brought everyone together to come take a bow.

Broken Social Scene

Broken Social Scene kept the momentum going, instantly connecting with the Salt Lake City audience. Lead singer Kevin Drew joked about the heat, saying he was going to call the mayor of Sandy, ask them to push the timings all back, and hand out parasols to the crowd to help keep them all cool. Despite the heat, people were up and out of their seats, dancing around for Broken Social Scene.

BSS was very cautious of the crowd getting too hot and said at one point during the set, “How’s the sit-down show? Should we play a little more mellow, or should we just do the set that we planned on doing? (cheers and even more people were standing up) Just do the second, see everyone came to stand up, but if you wanna stay seated, stay seated, we want you to stay cool, but it’s a little tough, we’re up on a rockin set, and I’m like “Let’s go acoustic” we can go a little acoustic, like MTV unplugged.” The crowd loved Drew’s jokes all night, and it made them fall even more in love with BSS.

It was definitely not the first time that Broken Social Scene had been in Salt Lake City and the surrounding Utah area. Drew said, “We’ve come here a bunch in the last few years, and I’d like to say that we love it here! We love the people here, we love the Hilton Garden, we love that glow SLC place here.
I go there and chill in the tubs and float there, went to tsunami for sushi of whatever last night (audience cheers) hung out with a guy named hayden, he was telling me about the taking your drivers license to have a drink is gonna go away because its causing a lot of problems, (audience laughing) but either way were here and were doing it, its a saturday night in Salt Lake City, and we could think of anything better to do, so thank you so much for sitting in the sun, and coming here in support.”

Broken Social Scene embraced a giant jam-session atmosphere, complete with an instrument switch-a-roo, a whole horn section, and brought out both Stars and Metric to sing/ play some of their songs with them. Drew had mentioned how all of their friendship was so important to the bands, and how everything was clicking into place, telling the crowd that he met Millan at a summer camp when they were only children. He shared, “Oh my god, thank you so much, well thank you very much, you don’t know how much this means to us, we have friends who aren’t here anymore, and here we are all able to do this tour.

And thats cause Metric put it together, so let’s give it a round of applause for friendship. That is the best form of protest we have going right now is friendship. Here’s another new one, we like to do two in a row, just to really drive it home, it’s called “Not Around Anymore”. This made the crowd feel all the emotions, happiness, and nostalgia.
Metric

Finally, it was time for Metric to take the stage! Framed by two light panels and the symmetrical stage setup, frontwoman Emily Haines ran onto the stage with a smile that lit up the amphitheater. Stepping up to the microphone, Haines looked out at the mountains and towards the sunset and shared her awe: “This is so beautiful to be here with you tonight. I’m looking at the mountains, this, like, beautiful stadium in Utah. Thank you so much for having us back in your home, thank you.” The crowd was certainly glad to have her back in their home, having cheered loudly and sang along to both her larger hits of songs, and the more recent songs.

During the performance, Haines took a beautiful moment to connect directly with an especially excited little girl standing right at the front of the crowd. The girl was proudly wearing her own handmade Metric shirt and dancing along all night, to every single song. Later in the night, the girl was singing along to each song and caught the attention of Haines again, to which she invited the girl to come onto the stage with her and dance to the song.

Haines had the girl introduce herself to the crowd before she jokingly apologized to the parents for stealing their kid because she was just so cute and excited. Lots of hugs and smiles were shared, and it was very heartwarming for the crowd, creating the memory of a lifetime for the girl. This moment also showed that not only are there fans from when the band originated, but also a new generation of Metric fans.

Towards the end of their set, Metric brought out both Stars and Broken Social Scene out onto the stage, sharing a magic moment, sharing all of their talent and friendship shared between the bands. The crowd loved the show, and the love coming from the bands to the crowd. Metric ended their set with their most popular song, “Black Sheep,” and thanked the audience for all the support.
