Daniel Seavey’s high energy had the crowd jumping so hard that it felt like the floor was going to fall out from under everyone. When The Second Wind tour stopped at the  Depot, fans from all over the state flocked to come see the incredible show.

kylekelly

Romantic movie quotes filled the room with an old school radio quality to begin kylekelly’s set, definitely setting the mood for his songs. kylekelly ran onto the stage and said,  “Utah!!!! How we feeling, Utah? Welcome to the second wind tour, everybody. I’m kylekelly,  that’s Noah Wise on guitar, and that’s Mike Chapin on drums.” kylekelly set the bar high right from the start and joked, “ok, who here knows who I am? Who here has no idea who I am?  Why was it so loud? It’s always so loud, You guys are allowed to lie! Anyways, for those of you who don’t know me, this is a cover, and if you don’t sing, I’ll be upset.” followed by a cover of the hit song “Hot N Cold” by Katy Perry.

kylekelly checked on the crowd many times throughout the night and made a few special additions to the check-ins. Including asking who wanted to be in his “BeReal”, making a joke about being in East High (Because of High School Musical), and responding to a crowd member asking if they will do the Dirty Dancing lift.

kylekelly ended the set by playing a remixed version of the song “Kiss Me” mixed with his song,  “my little <3”. It was a unique way to put a popular song and original songs together. kylekelly suddenly jumped into the pit to hug some diehard fans in the front row before throwing picks and setlists into the crowd.

Sombr

Sombr came out onto the stage complimenting the crowd, saying, “You guys look beautiful tonight,” which really matched his whole aesthetic. The audience related to the lyrics of  Sombr’s songs about old lost relationships and the conflicts within them. He later said,  “Thank you guys, we got such a good crowd, I love this city,” to which everyone cheered excitedly for.  The song “Savior” was definitely a huge hit with the audience as was the new song  “Undressed”. The crowd screamed the lyrics to both songs while jumping to the beat.

Sombr continued his show by saying, “This next one is called “Caroline”; this is the song that changed my life.” Sombr’s unique vocals left the crowd feeling the lyrics completely and deeply. Sombr also used an echoing microphone creating backing vocals for himself,  a super cool effect.

During “In Your Arms,” a girl in the audience fainted because she was overheating. Sombr immediately stopped the show when he saw the crowd asking for help and made sure that medics took care of their fan. Sombr handled the incident with grace and compassion.  When it was settled and everyone was okay, the audience started to cheer for him,  shouting “Thank you!” and giving a huge round of applause.

Before the end of his set, Sombr said, “thank you guys, this is the last song, Salt Lake I love  you guys, it’s always so fun every time we’ve been here, you guys are amazing, you guys  have been such an amazing crowd, one of my favorites so far, Alright guys the next song is  back to friends, let’s go f***ing wild for this one, like it’s the last night of our lives!!!” The energy that Sombr brought to the stage for that last song left the crowd wanting more. He did this huge flying jump off of the drum stand, jumping and dancing around, and sang his heart out.

Before the end of the song, there was even a “promposal” in the audience; the girl said yes, and Sombr even invited the promposal guy on stage. The guy proceeded to do backflips on the stage, resulting in tons of applause and made the audience go even wilder. Sombr ended the song off with a literal mic drop. Sombr perfectly prepared the crowd for Daniel Seavey’s performance!

Daniel Seavey immediately had the crowd dancing, jumping, and singing along to every single one of his songs, even the unreleased ones. His electric energy and amazing stage presence kept the audience engaged and connected throughout the show.

Even before Daniel Seavey took the stage, the crowd was already chanting his name. As the intro to “Waves” started to play, Seavey ran out onto the stage and said,  “Salt Lake, how we feeling? This is going to be a good night; I can tell! If you know this song, sing it with me!” The crowd was ecstatic to see Seavey live and hear his impressive vocal range.

After finishing off the song Seavey said, “My name is Daniel and I just wanna say welcome to the second wind tour! I can already tell this is going to be such a good night.  We all ready to have some fun?” before jumping right into the intro for “Second Wind”. The crowd excitedly shouted, and the whole crowd burst into a giant dance party. Seavey jumped off the stage and into the barricaded area so he could be face-to-face with his fans. Singing to the fans while they were able to physically touch Seavey created intimate moments between the fans and the band every time he jumped into the pit.

Seavey showered the crowd with love, saying, “You guys rock! This is such a good crowd. I  know we still got a lot of show left, but this might be my favorite crowd yet.” and “Can I just say the outfits, you guys are killing it! Like you guys really crushed it! Also, there’s this dude right here with the yellow vest on. Bro, your vibe is immaculate. That’s the energy I’m trying  to be on.” The crowd went wild for Seavey and held up handmade signs (one of which said  how Seavey’s music is the fan’s happy place), shouted “I love you, Daniel!” and sang  Happy Late Birthday to the singer. Seavey responded to the song by saying, “wow you guys  sang that in D major too that’s impressive, thank you so much”

Daniel Seavey’s talent was nothing short of incredible. After playing fan favorite song “I  Tried,” Seavey explained, “I want to explain really quick if you didn’t know what was going on in that last song. I love using loop pedals, you guys know what a loop pedal is? Ed  Sheeran uses them all the time. It’s always been a dream of mine to be able to loop every instrument I play, and finally figured out the technology too. That’s what that was; everything you just heard was completely live.” Before saying, “I’ve been doing this thing at  shows that’s been pretty challenging but very fun, where I want you as a crowd to give me  any song in the world even if I don’t know it, if I don’t know it at all its fine, and I want to  cover it for you on the spot live.”

The fans came prepared with lots of signs, and one fan even had a spinning wheel full of songs. “Ooo, this is a tough one. We got all these signs, but  I’m kinda liking stick season, I can’t lie.” The crowd was very excited for the looped cover of  Noah Kahan’s “Stick Seaso,n” as Kahan has frequently played in Utah. To create this cover,  Daniel Seavey ran around the stage playing every instrument from drums to piano to standing electric bass. When the sound of the cover wasn’t exactly to Seavey’s liking, he added new patterns as well as played some of the instruments differently and added them to the looped mix.

After the section of his set with the loop pedals, the lights turned dark red, and Daniel  Seavey somehow “lost” his shirt, causing the crowd to go even wilder. The intro for  “Fallin’ (Adrenaline)” by Why Don’t We (Seavey’s former band) started to play, and the crowd started jumping along to the beat and singing every single line of the song. It shook the whole venue and made it feel like there was an earthquake.

If the energy wasn’t already high enough, Seavey decided to take it to a new level, literally.  From the upper balcony of the Depot, Seavey sang his song “Runaway” leaving fans shocked when he appeared above them and created a ton of excitement for the fans sitting on the upper deck who weren’t expecting to be that close to the singer.

The intimate moments Seavey created with fans made the concert that much more fun.  Seavey played his “favorite song he’s ever made” “Eden” before sharing a story about the song “The Older You Get” saying, “this song really took me out of a dark place, and put me in a situation where my dreams are really coming true, singing songs for you like I am right now And I’m very thankful for this song, and thankful for you guys, and I’m just going to leave it at that tonight. If you know it, please sing along! I really hope you enjoy.” The fans absolutely enjoyed the song and sang the words to the song back to Seavey, giving him an “I  made it” moment. It really showed how much performing means to him.

Daniel Seavey took a bow, blew some kisses to the audience and walked off stage,  a very convincing ending. The crowd, of course, chanted “Daniel, Daniel, Daniel,” and the intro to “Can We Pretend That We’re Good” started up. The incredible backing drummer,  Johannes Gritschacher, was the first to come back on stage for the encore. Seavey came back out with a bang, making the crowd all push forward to get closer to him.

After the song finished, Seavy held up one finger and asked if the crowd wanted one more. They erupted into applause; the crowd couldn’t get enough of Daniel Seavey. So, he grabbed his acoustic guitar and played one of his most popular songs, “Other People”. The crowd immediately started to sing along. To end the night off, Seavey said, “Thank you guys so much for having me. I love you so much” while blowing kisses to the audience, taking a few more bows, and one last jump back into the pit to give hugs down the front line of the crowd. It was a very sweet and memorable way to end off the wonderful night in SLC on his  Second Wind tour.
