5 Seconds Of Summer brought their “Everyone’s A Star” tour to Utah First Credit Union Amp in West Valley, bringing energy and the starry, glamorous boyband experience to their Utah fans. As the saying goes from guitarist of 5SOS, Michael Clifford, “Real bands save fans, and real fans save bands”

Haiden Henderson came out onto the stage with such confidence and an air about him that just showed he’s going to be a star. Known for having more seductive songs and the energy about him entranced the crowd, capturing their attention instantly. A few fans in the front even had signs saying they were there to witness his opening performance for 5SOS.
Not only was Henderson winning over the Utah crowd, but also his guitarist, Bella Perron, who was absolutely crushing it on that stage.
Henderson has dancing incorporated into the set and during his songs that the crowd had clearly been working on learning before they saw him live. This crowd engagement really lit him up, and the joy it brought him was very evident, creating an i made it moment for him. At one point in his set, Henderson shared how he used to look up to 5SOS and how their music helped influence how he makes music; it was a very sweet story that connected the whole night together perfectly.
The Band Camino
The highly talked-about The Band Camino were the second opening act for the night, bringing in a more mellow pop feeling to the show. Everyone in the crowd was very excited to see The Band Camino, and singing along to their favorite songs from them, jumping along, and dancing. It was pretty clear that many in the amphitheater were there specifically for The Band Camino. They have been to Utah many times as headliners. They brought a great energy to this show, and I’m sure the whole tour.
The Tennessee-based band has been on tour with 5SOS for a very large chunk of their world tour, but especially around North America. Their fanbase is very much growing through going on this tour, and I was repeatedly seeing new fans of theirs exclaiming that they liked their songs, and going to follow them on social media and Spotify.
The Band Camino brought very good and high energy to the stage and for the crowd, asking if the fans were ready to see 5SOS!
5 Seconds of Summer
5 Seconds of Summer, also known as 5SOS, showed the glitz, glamour, downfall, rise, and excitement of what life is like being the biggest boyband in the world to the Utah crowd. Intentionally made to be over the top, the “Everyone’s A Star” tour, named after their latest album, followed a 7-act storyline about how 5SOS is THE boyband.
Widely known by the superfans of 5SOS, they start each show off to get the crowd hyped up and dancing by playing the “Macarena” by Los Del Rio, and everyone absolutely got the memo, dancing along. This is then interrupted by a live feed inside the back of the limo of the band members preparing to come on stage and perform. While this is occurring, slides and short videos are appearing on the screens, announcing how they are coming out to play to a huge crowd in SLC, and are the biggest stars in the whole world. 5SOS, consisting of Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Ashton Irwin, and Callum Hood, originally from Sydney, Australia, have been huge for years, so it is exciting that they came to Utah once again!
Coming out onto the stage, the energy was incredibly high from both the band and the crowd, and to start off the night with a bang, 5SOS played “Not OK” with huge bursts of confetti showering down on the crowd. The night was already off to an amazing start, and the stardom filled the air. This was only the beginning of Act 1 called “The Peak”, and captured the height of the fandom, with the act also consisting of them playing their hit song “Teeth”, and the crowd was screaming along to every single word they have known and loved for years.
The Stage was set with a pink limo in the middle that contained drummer Ashton Irwin’s drum kit, a very original stage setup as touring band setups go, but this absolutely fit the theme for 5 Seconds Of Summer as a band and especially on this tour. The layered stage setup with the flashing lights, graphics with lyrics and neon pink and blue lights matched the aesthetic the album and tour created, really making the show immersive for the crowd.
Every single one of the acts was separated by short clips of the band having some sort of event happening to their timeline, one following the interviews and news headlines of 5SOS after they had a stage diving accident, where each of the band members was covered in bandages. Another clip was a 60-minute-style interview on what they needed to do to feel like 5SOS again and how they found themselves, relearning their own lyrics and how to do a “Punk Jump”. A crowd favorite was the recreation that they did of the Nicole Kidman AMC commercial, saying how they finally feel good coming back. Each of these was humorous, having the crowd laughing at the skits and storyline, excited to see it all play out.
Each stop on this tour is hyper specific to each stop, with 5SOS doing a city takeover and sharing what they did in each tour stop’s city. For the Utah crowd, this consisted of some decently normal activities for bands to partake in while coming through Utah, like visiting the Salt Flats and trying Swig for the first time. However, there were two very specific and hilariously Utah pop culture themed, like hearing what the “tea” was about with the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives tv show, and sharing how they “threw a party” for Real Housewives of SLC former cast member Jen for getting out of jail. These had the audience chuckling, thinking that 5SOS really did their research on the city they were coming to.
It’s been 10 years since 5SOS has performed in Utah, and so they had to share with the crowd some older fan favorites along with the new album. Songs like “Bad Omens”, “She’s so Perfect”, and “Amnesia” were all hits during the show on the older end of their discography, while “Boyband”, “Telephone Busy”, “Evolve,” and surprise song for the night “The Rocks” showcased their more rock/pop / new wave album.
Their SLC show really did prove they are one of the biggest boybands in the world, with them “winning” a boyband of the year award during one of the skits in between acts. Each member’s distinct look and personality really shines through in their show and production, and it’s clear they are all truly having the best time of their lives. This was a one-of-a-kind production, and a very fun show to watch.
The night ended in the most perfect way, with 5SOS’ starwalk, where they walk through the crowd, high-fiving everyone they can and starting the song, “Everyone’s a Star.” This brought the energy up to a whole new level, with everyone sprinting to get as close as they could to the Australian band. Once they got back on stage and began the song, everyone was going even more wild for them, especially with the infamous live version line change of singing “Someone call the bassist” instead of “someone call the dealer”, and causing the crowd to scream the bassist line so loudly that it was echoing off the back of the stage. The show wasn’t quite over yet; 5SOS finished their night off with their most popular song, and the biggest reason for their stardom, “Youngblood”.
