This past Sunday, I had the incredible opportunity to photograph The Band CAMINO live at The Complex in Salt Lake City. It was my fourth time seeing them and my third time photographing them. Somehow, each show feels even more electric than the last. I was looking forward to seeing what one of my favorite bands was going to bring this time.

In Color

The night kicked off with In Color, who instantly set the tone with their high-energy performance and undeniable stage presence. I hadn’t seen them before, but they completely won me over. In Color’s seven-song setlist was brief but impactful. Leading off with “Liar” and playing other crowd favorites like “Holiday Rd.”, “Big Deal”, and “Lighter” it was clear that they were a good choice to open the show. Closing with “Headlights”, their most-streamed song to date, In Color made an impact on this show and their presence here in Utah. I can definitely see them returning soon.

almost monday

Right after In Color departed, almost monday took the stage. I was just as impressed. Their energy, charisma, and connection with the crowd made it impossible not to dance along. Utah Concert Review has had the opportunity to cover almost monday multiple times. While this was my first time, judging by the UCR reviews of their shows that they’ve always shown up for Utah. They’ve developed a solid following here, and it looks like they enjoy playing here. I’ve genuinely never seen openers with that much life and crowd engagement. Both of these bands are on their way to something big.

Lead vocalist, Dawson Daugherty, has a high-energy style that completely drew in the audience. The San Diego-based band brought a collection of songs that are suited for live music. Songs like “can’t slow down”,”sunburn”, “you look so good”, and “she likes sports” were well received. Their second-to-last song, ‘jupiter” had the entire venue moving. They have such fun songs. I’m excited for what they continue to do in their careers.

The Band CAMINO

By the time The Band CAMINO hit the stage, the venue was buzzing. What stood out most to me was how early fans had shown up — the crowd was packed and singing along from the very first opener until the final encore. You could feel the love and excitement in the room all night long.

As always, The Band CAMINO delivered an unforgettable performance. They played some of my personal favorites, “Karaoke” and “Know Me”, and it was surreal capturing those moments through my lens. The band told the crowd that Salt Lake City was one of their favorite cities to perform in, and judging by the energy that night, the feeling was definitely mutual.

Walking out of the venue, I kept thinking about a quote I saw recently: “Your favorite band was once an opener.” It couldn’t have been more fitting. Watching In Color and Almost Monday win over a crowd just like The Band CAMINO once did reminded me why I love live music — the discovery, the connection, and the growth.

As someone who’s been following The Band CAMINO for years, I couldn’t be prouder of how far they’ve come. From seeing them in small venues such as the Urban Lounge in Salt Lake City to venues as big as the UCCU Center in Orem, The Band Camino has become a Utah favorite. I’m just as excited to see where these talented openers go next.
