Quinn XCII stopped by at the America First Field on October 3rd with Allen Stone for his LOOK! I’m Alive Tour. I was excited to cover this show, not only because of Quinn XCII and Allen Stone but also because I haven’t photographed there before. The stage was on the east side of the stadium. It was outdoors and had an amazing view of the mountains in the background.

Allen Stone

I didn’t receive my credentials until Quinn XCII hit the stage, but I was able to listen to Allen Stone through the fence that surrounded the America First Field. The first time I heard Allen Stone was when he was featured on a Macklemore & Ryan Lewis album titled The Heist. This album was released in 2012, and he was on a song titledNeon Cathedral”. His father was a preacher, and this is when he would begin singing in his father’s church. The stage looked even better once he came out because the stage was well-lit, and it was darker out.

Throughout his set, he would shout out Salt Lake City. He introduced his band and mentioned how they are from the Pacific Northwest. He mentioned that they have one goal and that it was to make sure that everyone was warmed up for Quinn XCII. It was fully dark outside about 30 minutes into his set. He was very interactive with the crowd and played some new music for the fans. Allen has a soulful voice, and I recommend listening to “Consider Me” if you want to hear a taste of his sound.

Quinn XCII

I made it inside about 10 minutes before Quinn XCII would hit the stage. As I walked through the crowd, I noticed a lot of merch and how packed the show was. He would perform “Georgia Peach” and “Coffee” as I photographed the first three songs from the pit. Just like Allen Stone, Quinn XCII was very interactive with the crowd. He mentioned this was his 10th year doing this right before performing “Flare Guns” featuring Chelsea Cutler. He joked about Chelsea coming out to perform the song with him, but she wasn’t there.

During this song is when it would start to rain over the crowd. Quinn mentioned that he loved a downpour concert right before mentioning that he was here because of the new album, which was inspired by fatherhood. One of the last songs he would perform before lightning would hit the sky was “Olive Tree”. Quinn XCII mentioned that he would be exiting the stage at this point, and we will be hearing an announcement soon.

The announcement said that we need to head back to our vehicles for safety because of the lightning and to be on the lookout for a social media update. We were eventually notified that, due to the weather conditions, the concert could not continue. Quinn XCII’s concert was energetic, and his dedicated fans really showed their support that night. Hopefully, he can make it back to Utah soon and finish the show that was cut short.
