Dirty Heads put on a killer show on Saturday night! When I first heard that Dirty Heads was coming to play during the Sundance Film Festival, I was pretty excited and then a little surprised when I heard they were coming. Especially since they had just come to play in Utah only 6 months prior. But that did not stop them from bringing all of the energy and excitement that they always bring to their shows.

I’ve been waiting for a long time to see what was happening with Park City Live, a club located at the center of Park City’s Main Street.  I’ve always enjoyed going to shows there, but I realized it had been some time since I had been to the venue.  I was excited to see the venue get a new name, The Marquis Park City, a polished look, and a slew of announced concert dates.  It was a brilliant move to open the venue during the Sundance Film Festival.  The star-studded list of concerts included the one-of-a-kind, Devo.  T

he band would be in town due to the festival premiering “Devo” the documentary about the band.  Before the concert, Devo hosted a dinner at ChefDance Social presented by Space Perspective.  Devo fans flooded The Marquis Park City and I’d imagine anyone who had attended the dinner before, knew the fun night of music that was in store.

We all have our favorite musicals, don’t we?  Shows that we’ll see every time we go to Broadway, or whenever the touring production stops through town.  We know all the words, we know everyone who has played our favorite character, and we know every bit of choreography. There’s nothing like having a favorite show.  But once upon a time, that musical was brand new and we saw it for the first time.  Think back on not knowing all the words, and as soon as you could you wanted to learn them.  Or wanting to learn everything about the actors or the production.  Well, departed the Eccles Theater after watching the premier performance of the musical Six, my thought was, “Someone is leaving here tonight with a new favorite musical.”

It’s a new year. New concerts to see and new experiences to be made. With all the excitement of what’s to come, it’s nice to see that not everything is changing. Like quality concerts coming to Main Street, Park City at the Egyptian Theater. I have never been to a show there and left disappointed. Another unchanging element to the Egyptian Theater experience is starting the night off with Theater Manager, Randy Barton addressing the audience. It’s a time-honored tradition that I look forward to. Barton has made a skill out of thanking sponsors, announcing upcoming shows, and introducing the band. He’s humourous, timely, and brings a great energy to open up the night.

Royal Blood, the British rock duo comprised of Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher, took the stage in Salt Lake City last Friday night! Playing to a nearly sold-out crowd at The Union, Royal Blood brought an electrifying performance that will be remembered for a while. They had the whole audience enthralled. Jumping along to endless punk-rock bangers, like their hits ‘Out of the Black’ and ‘Little Monster’. Ben, the drummer, even took the spotlight for a drum solo that altered the energy in the building. Both of these artists proved their insane talent 3x over during their hour-and-a-half set.

Dan Marsala may have needed to catch his breath but Story Of The Year didn’t skip a beat.

Yay for altitude change, anniversaries, and even Waldo made a front-row appearance. Before I begin to dive into the incredible show they served Salt Lake on November 15th let’s take it back to 2003 when Page Avenue first made an appearance on the scene any emo kid around can still sing “Until The Day I Die” word for word and don’t even get me started on “Anthem Of Our Dying Day”. Forming in St. Louis Missouri, in 1995 just making music they love. It’s incredible that twenty years later “Page Avenue” is still a powerful album that resonates through generations.
