Seven high-energy bands took the stage for the idobi Radio Summer School Tour Summer School Tour at the Union Event Center. Fans of each of the bands came out to support their favorite acts, as well as staying to see new favorite bands and artists performing. From the visuals matching each artist’s aesthetic to the lighting, and of course, the music, Summer School was a magical night for fans.

Huddy

Huddy, aka Chase Hudson, started the night off perfectly with his energetic set. He came out onto the stage playing his newest single, “Vendetta,” which was released last month. Fans in the front row were so excited to see him play live, to which Hudson said, “Good evening Salt Lake City! Wow, ya’ll are ready to go, aren’t ya!” to which the audience cheered and screamed even louder. The California-based singer then played “All the Things I Hate About You”, a definite fan favorite for the SLC crowd. Before playing the rest of his set, Hudson said, “You guys ready to party with us?! I’m hearing a lot of girls. Girls, if you’re ready to party, say, “hell yeah!” dudes, say “f*ck yeah!”” hyping up the crowd for him to play “PartyCrasher” and for the rest of the performances that night.

If Not For Me

If Not For Me had the most metal music of the night, bringing in a different crowd than the rest of the performers, and even causing a small mosh pit to form during their set. The Pennsylvanian band, with lead singer Patrick Glover, really created a community inside the venue and engaged with the fans after their performance.

Glover said, “This is our second time ever playing Salt Lake City, the last time got pretty crazy. It’s so good to be back. Thank you so f*cking much for being here.” in regards to being back in SLC and then said “We got some merch back there, I will be hanging out after the show till the end of the night. I don’t give a f*ck how long it takes, I want to meet each and every one of you, so please come say what’s up!” before then thanking the crew, other artists, and audience for helping in making these shows possible for them.

Arrows In Action

Arrows in Action first came out onto the stage to double-check the microphones and other final details, but also to do a little yoga/stretch and interact with fans before their set. When it was the actual time for their performance to begin, they came out onto the stage with tons of blow-up basketballs to throw into the audience and get tossed back and forth to the stage. In a fun moment between band members, Victor Viramontes-Pattison (lead singer), Matthew Fowler (guitarist), and Jesse Frimmel (Drummer), all of whom are in tracksuits. Frimmel rips off his snap-on pants to reveal a second pair of pants underneath, causing Fowler to say, “This is a family-friendly show, oh wait… another pair of pants.” and Frimmel responded with, “Does anybody else wear two pairs of pants to a show?!” causing the audience to giggle and cheer.

Frimmel then said, “I am actually up here to teach you all a viral TikTok dance… It’s not a dance, and it’s not viral; it’s actually two steps. So take your favorite foot and stomp it on the ground, then take your favorite hands and clap.” The crowd loved being able to participate in their song, and it seemed like the crowd was giving the band a boost of energy as well.

Beauty School Dropout

Beauty School Dropout had the crowd clapping along to their songs and nodding along to their melodies. Lead singer Colie Hutzler mentioned their new upcoming album, “Where Did All The Butterflies Go,” and said, “Wow man, we’ve been at home working on this album for two years now, so we are grateful to be on this stage again. So many talented artists tonight, I hope you stick around, and if you see us walking around, come say hi.” This really emphasized how happy Beauty School Dropout was to be back on stage again and playing to a crowd. Hutzler followed this up by saying how if you’ve seen the band before, you’ll definitely know the words to their hit song, “A$$a$in”. The crowd absolutely knew the words and sang their hearts out to it, really feeling the lyrics while the guitarists were headbanging along to the beat.

Taylor Acorn

There were absolutely some fans of Taylor Acorn at the show, a few young girls at the front of the barricade had their hair matching the singer’s, blonde with pinkish-red front pieces, and they were singing along to every song. Taylor came out onto the stage with super high energy, making the crowd absolutely love her. The crowd loved it when Acorn played her hit “Coma,” singing along and cheering wildly when the song was finished. Acorn had the crowd engaging with her set the whole time, having them clap along to the beat and help her sing popular lyrics from many of her songs.

In regards to playing in Utah, Acorn said, “I won’t lie, the elevation in Salt Lake is no joke, but I have faith you guys are gonna help me with this next song.” The next song being “Greener”. Acorn’s guitarist, RickyJab, was spinning while playing guitar and jumping at the same time; it was very impressive, along with the playing itself.

Charlotte Sands

Charlotte Sands’ blue hair whipping performance was definitely one to remember. Her electric energy and stage presence were phenomenal, and had the crowd dancing along to her songs and left them asking her to play more songs. The LA-based songwriter played all of her hits, including her newest single “Hush” and her viral song “Dress,” both of which the crowd loved to hear live, singing along to every word. Her incredible angelic vocals captivated the crowd, and her infectious energy had the crowd smiling. Sands also had the most elaborate visuals on the screens with a burning house, cherries, and faces. Sands really used the whole stage and was dancing and jumping around during her whole set, bringing the already high energy in the room to a new level.

Rain City Drive

Rain City Drive ended the night on a high note with their passionate set. The Florida-based band originally met in England, where their name originated because of the rain. The band was previously known as the band “Slaves” but changed their name and genre with the addition of lead singer Matt McAndrew. At the Union show, they had the crowd bobbing their heads to the songs and rocking out to their favorites. McAndrew thanked the crowd for all of their love and applause for the band and songs.
