Have you ever seen someone rocking out while using a crutch? Well, Sunday night everyone at Kilby Court did. The popular, downtown, urban venue was the chilliest spot you could be on a Sunday night. Everyone lounged around outside the venue, chatting it up and waiting for Weathers to come on! Closer to show time, the venue filled up with eager fans, lots who were rocking their Weathers merch. Once the boys came out on stage the screams did not stop! I don’t think I’ve ever heard louder screaming from a crowd at Kilby Court than I did that night. Lead singer, Cameron Boyer, hopped on stage up to the mic, rocking a crutch on his left arm. The lead singer had hurt his ankle but that did not stop him from getting on that stage and rocking out, and rocking out hard!
From the very beginning, the energy that Weathers brought to the stage was insane! They were bouncing off of each other and it echoed into the audience. The crowd danced and jumped up and down to every song. Because Kilby Court is a smaller venue, the show felt very personal and everyone felt close to the boys. Weathers did an amazing job making the crowd feel like friends. The room felt united as if we were all there to just do one thing, and that was to rock. And that’s exactly what happened. It was a good venue choice for that reason. Everyone was feeling the love!
Weathers performed a mix of new songs and old crowd favorites. Everyone went crazy when they played their famous “Happy Pills”. The audience was screaming every word! The interaction between the band and the audience was great. Fans right up front had a great view of the boys jam out hard. It was surprising to see how hard Cameron was going, with that crutch and all, but he made it work! I’ve seen artists cancel shows because of ankle problems, leaving fans disappointed yet understanding. But with Weathers, that wasn’t the case at all. I think it really shows how dedicated they are to their music, tour and especially fans. I had never seen anything like it, and let me tell you, it was awesome!
There were a lot of moments during slower or calmer songs were the band would have just the crowd sing. It was beautiful. Those are always my favorite parts of concerts because you can just see and feel how much these songs mean to the fans. The fact that a group of strangers from all over the valley, come together to enjoy a performance of their favorite band and connect through music is magical. And you can really feel that when the crowd sings together beautifully.
Weathers said they love Salt Lake and will keep coming back. They have dedicated fans who have been to their shows every time they’ve visited. Heather Steven, 19, said, “they’re my favorite band! And their energy is incredible! I love seeing them do what they love!” When the boys left the stage, the crowd cheered and screamed so loud, wanting more! And that’s exactly what Weathers gave them. They returned to the stage, all sweaty, but still ready to rock out hard!
All around it was a fantastic performance, and a perfect way to spend a Sunday night in Salt Lake. Weathers is loved here and their fans just keep growing and growing. They definitely gained a new fan on Sunday, because I love them now! I can see why people love them, not just for their music, but also just because they’re the coolest guys ever, who are truly passionate about what they do.
