Noah Kahan brought The Great Divide Tour to America First Field in Sandy on August 25, turning what has been a massive stadium tour into what became a much more up close and personal night for us here in Utah. For example, I have friends who saw Noah in a packed Rose Bowl. That place holds 90, 000 people for football games. I believe there were just over 22,000 at America First Field. It was the smallest show on the entire tour. Lavell Edwards Stadium in Provo doesn’t usually have concerts outside of The Stadium of Fire, and I imagine Rice-Eccles Stadium wasn’t available due to the upcoming college football season. So we got the home of MLS team Real Salt Lake as the hosting venue for this show. And it was to our benefit.

It was an epic scene out at Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre.  It wasn’t just a sold-out crowd.  That would be awesome on its own.  But there was a buzz in the air I had not felt in some time.  There had been an anticipation for the show the moment it was announced.  I don’t remember a show being talked about quite so much.  If I wore my I Was/ I Am Tour shirt out of the house, someone for sure would compliment me and ask me if I was going to the show.  It was so exciting to walk into Utah First Amp and see all the excitement.

After seeing Noah Kahan play a sold-out show at The State Room back in October I thought I knew what was in store when I heard that he’d be supporting James Bay at The Union on March 23.  Back in October, Noah put on an exceptional show. The crowd was into it, and they left more than satisfied with the evening. So I had a feeling there would be more of the same at this show.  If anything, I thought perhaps it might be a bit of a letdown because Noah would be opening. I had no idea things would go like this.

UCR Interview- Noah Kahan

Interview by: Kevin Rolfe

Noah Kahan, a very talented singer-songwriter on the rise, is making his return to Utah this weekend when he supports James Bay on March 23 at The Union. This show comes on the heels of a sold-out show at The State Room. With a new album on the way and a successful lead single just released, Noah is an artist to keep an eye on. I enjoyed talking with Noah about the new album, choosing songs for that album, and what it’s like to headline versus open for someone. He was as interesting and insightful as always. Enjoy!

Noah Kahan: Hey Kevin, good to hear from you again.

UCR Interview- Noah Kahan

Interview By: Kevin Rolfe

Noah Kahan is an up and coming singer songwriter.  He actually might be past the “up-and-coming stage” since his show here in Utah is a sellout.  I had the chance to speak with Noah leading up to his show at The State Room.  I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed speaking with Noah.

UCR: Where are you currently?

Noah Kahan: Today we are out in Canada in Toronto.

UCR: Nice! How’s the tour going so far?

NK: It’s been amazing. Not really like any other tour I’ve done since I’m headlining the States and a lot of the shows have been sold out. It’s been super surreal and really, really rewarding.

UCR: I bet! The show here in Salt Lake City, at The State Room, is sold out. Now, I’ll never know what that feels like. Many people reading this interview will never know what it feels like to have a sold-out show. It’s something I’d say most music fans can only fantasize about, but you’re actually having that experience. What does it feel like?
