Polo & Pan performed the last concert that would take place at the Ogden Amphitheater on September 25th for the Ogden Twilight Series. Sofia Kourtesis was scheduled to open the concert, but had an emergency and could not make it. Utah-based artists, Sarah Lies and Mikey Stern, would replace Sofia.

I always emphasize the park surrounding the amphitheater and how it is always packed before and after the show. I bring this up because I feel like it adds to the concert experience and is an example of how these concerts bring the community together, whether it’s enjoying the sound within the amphitheater or outside of it. Tickets are required for anyone over the age of 4, so if you’re thinking about coming out to a show next year, keep that in mind. I have been to multiple venues, and that is the one thing that stands out with the Ogden Amphitheater is how well they accommodate families.

Mikey Stern & Sarah Lies

I was running a bit behind and was hoping to at least catch Mikey Stern before the transition. Thankfully, after I had received my credentials and headed towards the pit area, I noticed both Sarah and Mikey were still performing and getting the party started. Sarah Lies is based in Salt Lake City and has performed in multiple locations throughout the state, such as the Great Saltair. Sarah and Mikey also have experience performing together, which made sense because they looked comfortable performing up there together.

The crowd continued to grow as the duo continued their set. Sarah would eventually exit the stage as Mikey would keep the party going for another 45 minutes or so. The VIP section had people dancing throughout the whole thing. You can check out Sarah Lies’ new single “With You” on streaming services if you want a glimpse of her set and sound. As for Mikey Stern, you can check out his music and playlists on Soundcloud. It was nice to have local talent as a replacement. Their set was electric and set the tone for the night.

Polo & Pan

This was the first show that I have attended where the headliner started their set when it was completely dark outside. It was exciting to see the same concertgoers throughout the venue who had attended multiple concerts within this series. I was excited because I know Polo & Pan have one of the most visually stunning sets, according to anything posted online about the group.

Polo & Pan are a duo from France who have also recently brought along Zoe. A few of their songs that they are known for are “Canopée”, “Nanã”, and “Dorothy”. Their music has a touch of disco, house, and electronic into one. The two met as DJs and released their first album in 2017 titled Caravelle. Their music is played at large music festivals, on rooftops, and has been heard by millions of people.

The amphitheater was packed as we prepared for the duo to step out. I was told that I would be able to photograph from anywhere in the amphitheater after the first portion of their set. I haven’t had the opportunity to photograph outside the first three songs here before, but I am glad this was the set that allowed me to do so. There was a giant DJ table on stage that would later illuminate into keys as the duo performed. It was interesting to see the set from up close and then from further back.

As I headed toward the back of the amphitheater to photograph different angles of the stage, I ran into some fans who did not have a view of the stage. This was interesting because they were dancing along to the genre-blending sound of Polo & Pan just as much as the crowd in the VIP area. Throughout their set, they played their hit songs “Canopée”, “Nanã”, and “Dorothy”. Every song had a different visual story that would display on the screen panels behind the group.

Polo & Pan were the perfect group to end this amazing concert series here in Ogden. Their sound, visuals, and positive energy could be heard throughout the night. I remember the two acknowledging that this was going to be the final concert for the Ogden Series after they came out on stage, and how that set the tone for the night.

I remember reading a post prior to the concert about how the Ogden Amphitheater was fortunate to fit the Polo & Pan setup on stage. Between then and now, they had another concert scheduled where that wasn’t the case, and I remember thinking about how I felt bad for the fans because this was visually one of the best concerts that I have attended. In the end, it was a bittersweet moment because it was the end of an amazing lineup this year, and it only made me excited for what is to come next year. I highly recommend this series to anyone who has never attended this series before. There is nothing but great energy, community, food, and music. Until next time, Polo & Pan!
