On August 31, 2024, Chayanne brought his Bailemos Otra Vez Tour to the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. Chayanne was born in Puerto Rico and was introduced into the world of music at very young age. He was in the school theatre at the age of six and around the age of 10 recorded his first album with a group that was influenced by the look of the Beatles. Chayanne was already starting to do stadium tours in Venezuela, Panama, and Central America at the age of 12 years old. In 1984 he recorded his first solo studio album titled Es Mi Nombre.

Chayanne has collaborated and toured with some of the biggest Latin names. In 2012 he went on tour titled “GIGANT3S” with Marc Anthony and Marco Antonio Solis which was a big deal at the time because it was a tour with three leading artists in their genre.

His “Bailemos Otra Vez” album was released last year making it now 17 albums under the name Chayanne. He has a decorated discography including hit songs Dejaria Todo, Yo Te Amo, Un Siglo Sin Ti, and recent hit Bailando Bachata. With over 40 years of performing on stage, I was excited for the opportunity to capture and review his first ever stop in Salt Lake City and anticipated sold-out show.

I was curious how Salt Lake City was going to be this Saturday night due to other concerts going on and it being Labor Day weekend. When I arrived downtown, I noticed there were very few vendors around the arena this time around and the streets were calm. When I arrived down to the MIX where we were assigned that night for photography, I noticed right away how the seats were all full and the crowd was ready for Chayanne. Everyone on the floor in front of the MIX had an assigned seat. It was finally time for the show to start as the lights started to dim and the photographers readied their cameras.

Chayanne rose from underneath the stage with a smile on his face to greet the arena. The first three songs by Chayanne were performed as a Medley and I thought it was a perfect touch because it kept the crowd going without any breaks and the photographers. One of the first three songs he performed was Bailemos Otra Vez which is the name of his latest album, the first song off that album, and the name of his tour. The lyrics

Bailemos otra vez, bailemos otra vez

Bailemos otra vez, bailemos otra vez surrounded the arena and the party began. When arriving to my seat I couldn’t help but appreciate the stage, the lights, the screens, the dancers, and the band. Another thing that I noticed right away was how the crowd who had floor seats had the same movement and energy as those in the upper bowl. Chayanne was energetic and very interactive with his fans. His stage was set up perfectly in which he was able to run up and reach his fans.

One of my favorite segments of the concert was when he took time to introduce every bandmember and dancer by name and let them have their solo. You could tell he appreciated his team who help put this show together. One of the first stand out performances was Fiesta En América. Latin flags began to unravel, and you could see them throughout the arena during this performance and for the rest of the night. Peru, Panama, Mexico, and Venezuela were among the many.

The last standout song and one of the last songs he would perform for Salt Lake City was Bailando Bachata which is one of my personal favorites off his new album. The arena was on their feet the whole concert already but when this song started to play you know it was a guarantee that everyone was up and dancing. The crowd exploded when Chayanne invited a fan on stage to dance with him to this song. When the concert concluded the halls began to fill and the fans rushed a cardboard of Chayanne to take that last photo to remember the experience. The merchandise booth was also still busy well after the show.

Chayanne’s first concert in Salt Lake City was one to remember. The poster signs around the arena, the tears that were shed by fans, and the sold-out crowd was a statement of that. I was excited to see the production and stage design with the many years of stage experience that Chayanne brought with him. The outfit changes, the colors used on lighting, outfits, and the overall production was an example of how detail was expressed throughout the night. I hope Utah can experience another Chayanne concert down the road for anyone to was unable to attend this amazing performance.
