Lucius will play The Depot in Salt Lake City on November 15.

Acclaimed indie-pop band Lucius have released a nostalgic coming-of-age track, “Thick as Thieves”. The track was recorded as part of the sessions for their new self-titled album, which Rolling Stone calls “the best album of their career”. Recently, the song debuted on the newest episode of Sibling Revelry with Kate Hudson & Oliver Hudson where Lucius’ lead singers Jess Wolfe & Holly Laessig sat down with the Hudson siblings to discuss the new album & song, exchange stories about taking care of babies while touring (in Kate’s case, with her ex-husband Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes), and the evolution of the Lucius aesthetic. Stream “Thick as Thieves” HERE, and listen to the podcast episode HERE.

Of the track, Lucius’ Holly Laessig, shares, “This song is one for the misfits; who often found themselves in marching band ha (as we did). I had part of the chorus to this for a song I wrote in college called bleachers..and then rewrote in 2012 until we finally found its home in “Thick as Thieves” in 2024…’we‘d run under the bleachers while everyone was cheering and pretend it was for us“. The original lyric was “pretend it was for me’, but it feels poetic that on the other side of all these years it changed to ‘us’. You can feel so lonely at that age and then look back and realize you weren’t the only one in the photograph. ”
Additional critical acclaim for Lucius:
“Killer grooves, earworm melodies, and their voices are just so transfixing”—NPR Music
“The vocalists have unlocked a completely new gear on this upcoming self-titled record of theirs”—Paste
“sweet harmonies and dark emotions alchemised into heartfelt pop”—MOJO
“the silky balm of their close-fitting voices is supported throughout by Pete Lalish‘s warm guitar tones and immaculate production”—UNCUT
The album was produced by Lucius’ Dan Molad and marks a full circle moment for the group (Laessig, Wolfe, Molad and Peter Lalish) as they return to their roots, writing and recording without seeking outside influence—their first time doing so since their debut over a decade ago. Just in time for the official start of the summer season, the track boasts a summery vibe that makes you want to roll your windows down and sing along. If you listen closely, you can hear the giggle of one of the band members’ babies.
Known for their captivating live performances, Lucius will continue their “The Gold Rush Tour” this month, which includes a stop in Salt Lake City at The Depot. See below for complete tour itinerary. Full details can be found at www.ilovelucius.com.
Lucius, their fourth studio album, follows the band’s acclaimed 2022 record, Second Nature, which was produced by Brandi Carlile and Dave Cobb. Released to overwhelming acclaim, the Los Angeles Times praised, “dazzling…Second Nature mines an ’80s-pop sound with lush synths and sleek disco grooves under the women’s laser-guided vocals,” while Variety declared, “with Second Nature…they’re no longer 20 feet or even a couple of yards from stardom, but re-claiming the spotlight for themselves” and Relix proclaimed, “stunning…a 10-song, smart-pop masterpiece.” Most recently, Lucius celebrated the 10-year-anniversary of their debut album, Wildewoman, with the release of Wildewoman (The New Recordings)—an expanded version of the record that features new versions of the 12 original tracks, including collaborations with friends Carlile, Marcus Mumford and Devon Gilfillian.
