On August 10, The Loveland Living Planet Aquarium in Draper hosted its first big concert underneath the EECO. And what more fitting band to perform under the massive structure than Hollywood U2? In case you weren’t aware, the EECO structure was once the stage for legendary rock band, U2 on their 360º Tour. A tour that stopped by Salt Lake City at Rice-Eccles Stadium on May 24, 2011. For many U2 fans, it was a way to remember that memorable evening back in 2011. For The Loveland Living Planet Aquarium, it was the perfect match to bring people to see a new show in a new place. It was a win-win for everyone.

The aquarium features a variety of exhibits that transport guests to different ecosystems. The “Ocean Explorer” exhibit allows visitors to explore the depths of the world’s oceans, encountering sharks, stingrays, sea turtles, and other marine life. Hollywood U2
Hollywood U2 is a premier tribute band dedicated to recreating the iconic music and performance style of the legendary Irish rock band U2. Founded in Los Angeles, California, Hollywood U2 has earned a reputation as one of the most authentic U2 tribute acts in the world, capturing the spirit, energy, and sound of U2’s live shows.
The band is led by frontman Joe Hier, who portrays Bono with remarkable accuracy, both in vocal performance and stage presence. His uncanny resemblance to Bono, combined with his ability to mimic the singer’s voice and mannerisms, makes Hollywood U2 a standout act in the tribute band circuit. We were honored that he would spend his birthday, celebrating with us under the EECO. The other members of Hollywood U2—who take on the roles of The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.—are equally dedicated to replicating the musicianship and sound of their U2 counterparts.
Hollywood U2’s setlists span U2’s entire career, from their early hits like “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and “Pride (In the Name of Love)” to later anthems like “Beautiful Day” and “Vertigo.” The band’s performances are known for their attention to detail, not only in terms of music but also in their use of visuals, lighting, and stage effects that echo U2’s live shows.
The band has performed at various prestigious venues and events worldwide, earning praise from both fans and critics. Notably, in 2016, Hollywood U2 gained widespread attention when Bono himself acknowledged Joe Hier during a U2 concert in Los Angeles. Hier was invited on stage to perform “The Sweetest Thing” with U2, further cementing Hollywood U2’s status as a top-tier tribute band.
Hollywood U2’s dedication to authenticity and their passion for U2’s music make them a favorite among fans of the original band. Their performances offer a nostalgic and exhilarating experience, bringing the magic of U2’s live concerts to audiences who may not have the opportunity to see the real band in action.
The layout for the concert under the EECO was great. There were designated seats closer to the stage and open general admission lawn seating behind. People were able to lay out blankets and fill out the area with their families. There were also cabana areas that were rented out where fans could sit back, eat, and relax while taking in the music of U2.
I thought the event was incredibly well organized. Especially for being their first concert. I’ve been to concert venues that have events on a weekly basis that aren’t this well put together. I really appreciated how much effort went into making this show a success. And by all accounts, it was a hit. I think we’ll see more concerts to come at Loveland Living Planet Aquarium. And I would not be surprised to see Hollywood U2 back on that stage. As the show came to an end and the crowd sang “How Long To Sing This Song” from U2’s frequent closer, “40” I couldn’t help but think, “This is too good a fit to not do again.”
