Jahnah Camille came onto the stage with a thick southern accent and said, “How are yall doing? My name is Jahnah Camille. I’m from Alabama.” before laughing and breaking character to say, “you know for years I’ve been saying that I’m going to do that bit, and I always forget to, and this is the first time I have.” This made the audience giggle along and created a fun comedic moment to set the night off right. Camille followed this up by saying “But I am from Alabama, I’m from Birmingham.  I’m so happy to be on tour with Blondshell, and to play a sh*t ton of music for you all.”

Camille’s wonderful backing band was so much fun to watch perform. While introducing them, Camille said, “Travis is on bass to my right, Wyatt on drums behind me, Layton on guitar to my left, and you guys Salt Lake City right in front of me. I’ve never been here before and I like it”. Camille connected with the audience so well and definitely found some new fans.

Camille’s songs had the crowd bobbing their heads along to the music. Camille asked the crowd, “Is anyone here named Elliot? No? You’re right there in the front and didn’t skip a beat and said f*ck no. Okay, I guess. This song’s called Elliot.” and in regards to being in Utah for the first time, Camille said, “We drove here late last night and got to the air bnb and when we woke up there was a humongous f*cking mountain staring at us. What’s up with that? You guys just live like this? That’s cool” Camille had the audience laughing and swaying along to the funny quips and calming music.

Blondeshell

The last time that Blondeshell was in SLC was at Kilby Block Party 2024, but the performance on June 6th topped her set at the festival. Blondeshell came out with a bang by playing “23’s A Baby” and dancing around to the song. It had the crowd cheering and dancing along instantly.

Originally from New York City, but based in California, Sabrina Mae Teitelbaum (aka Blondeshell) has been making indie-rock music under the name Blondeshell since 2020. She previously worked under the artist name BAUM making music with more of a pop feel. After not feeling fulfilled by the pop music she was making at the time, she decided to shift to indie rock and her fans certainly seem to appreciate her decision to switch.

The crowd absolutely loved Teitelbaum, shouting “I love you!!!” to which she responded with “I love you too.” making the crowd cheer loudly. The audience sang along to every song, and they were one of the loudest crowds I have ever heard at Soundwell.

While Blondeshell is based out of Los Angeles, it happened to be a hometown show for guitarist Ray Libby, a talented musician in his own respect. The crowd loved having a hometown musician playing with their favorite band, and it added a special personal feel to the night.

It was a night filled with old classics of Blondeshell’s as well as newer songs with the addition of a cover of “Diet Pepsi” originally by Addison Rae which will soon be released as a cover from Blondeshell. Before playing “Diet Pepsi” Teitelbaum told the crowd. “We have a cover for you, and it’s a good day to play it. So if you know this song, sing it with us.” The crowd absolutely knew the song as it had become very popular with its original release.

After the song Teitelbaum then said, “Okay, I want some help with this one too.” before playing “Kiss City” which had the whole crowd singing along and really soaking in the special moment. Her lyrics about toxic relationships and powerful rageful emotions really help the audience connect with how she felt while writing the songs and still allows the audience to relate their own experiences to the songs.

When Blondeshell left the stage the crowd was chanting “One more song! One more song!” which of course caused her to come back out and not just sing one more song but two. The last was her most well known song “Salad” which the audience screamed along to, it was evident that the crowd really felt the lyrics. Ending with “Salad” left the crowd hungry for more.
