Park City’s Concerts on the Slopes series brought a pop icon in Mike Posner, to play Friday evening. A nice afternoon crowd began to gather on the stunning slopes at the Canyons ski resort. DJ Brody Jenner, yes, that Brody Jenner, welcomed concert goers with a DJ set featuring upbeat remixes of popular songs.

Before long, the good vibes provided by Brody had a group of people dancing up at the front of the stage and even had people filling up the lawn jamming all the way to the back. Just as the energy was starting to build up, Mother Nature had another plan for us. A promoter/manager got on stage and announced that, unfortunately, because of a nearby lightning strike, the concert would be delayed for a short period.

Weather Delay

While the lightning was supposed to only cause a short 15-minute delay, it quickly became apparent we might be stuck waiting a little longer than expected as the rain began to pour down on the Park City crowd. Luckily, it wasn’t too cold out, so the rain wasn’t too bad, but it was enough to drive away a good amount of the crowd. The rest of us stuck it out in hopes that the show would continue soon. Right as it seemed like there was little hope of the show continuing, the lights were turned back on, and production crew quickly took the stage to set everything up.

Those brave enough to face the storm were greeted by a clear sky and an energetic Mike Posner. Taking the stage to his international smash hit, “Please Don’t Go”, Mike took the stage with an eruption of energy! The fans who had waited patiently all night were immediately in good spirits and dancing from the front all the way to the back! While many left, there still remained a pretty decent crowd.

After “Please Don’t Go”, Mike performed Maroon 5s song “Sugar,” which he had a large part in writing. Much of Posner’s set focused on embracing everyday and just having a positive mindset. He expressed gratitude for his life and the chance to play in the rain because he said that rain crowds are the true fans. Mike gave a moving tribute to his friend, the late and great Avicii.

Ranging from covers, to his inspirational indie-pop style songs, to his smash hits such as “Cooler than Me,” Mike Posner maintained a high-level performance and stayed engaged with the lively crowd. It was just overall a very positive feeling concert. He closed the mountain concert off with none other than a song that I’m sure everyone has heard, A Pill in Ibiza and had everyone dancing the night away.
