There are some nights where an evening, and a venue match an artist just perfectly.  Jul 8, 2023 at Red Butte Garden the great Jason Isbell and his incredible band the 400 Unit stopped by Salt Lake City on what was a quintessential Utah summer evening.  Every so often Isbell comes to Utah and plays another venue.  Some of them are venues I typically like.  But when a venue like Red Butte pairs this well, it’s clear that he should never play any other venue when he comes to Utah.

On this tour Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit would be featuring their recently released album Weathervanes.  So much so that they played eleven of the thirteen songs on the album. They mixed in a number of crowd favorites and hit singles that brought together both audience and artists.  I had been anticipating this concert as one of my “Must See” concerts since it was announced. It did not disappoint.

On a warm summer evening, the USANA Amphitheater came alive with an electrifying performance by Fall Out Boy. The concert was part of their “So Much For (Tour) Dust” tour in support of their newly released album So Much For (Star) Dust. Supported by their incredible lineup of opening bands Bring Me The Horizon, Royal & the Serpent, and Daisy Grenade, this concert was a celebration of music and a testament to the band’s enduring legacy.

A rare appearance here in Salt Lake did not disappoint as Ruel visited The Depot on his 4th Wall Tour. Bringing along Sam MacPherson, the night was full of amazing music and two great performances. The Depot has a very strong lineup this summer, but this show will be hard to beat. The ticket sales and the energy in the venue will be hard to match.

Red Butte Garden is such a significant part of the summer concert experience here in Utah.  With the green grass covered with lawn chairs and picnic baskets, to the beautifully curated gardens surrounding the venue, this has always been one of the essential places to be for hot summer nights in Utah.  While there had already been a couple of concerts at Red Butte, this felt like the first official summer concert.  It has to have been one of the hottest days so far.  The heat didn’t keep anyone away as the garden amphitheater was packed for one of many of this season’s sold-out shows.  On this night, the evening of June 25, 2023, Alternative Rock Band, CAKE was the headlining band.

Isela Garcia said that about fifty people were already in line when she got to Seattle’s Washington Music “WAMU” Theater at 5:30 in the morning on Saturday, June 24th. Many fans of this particular music scene don’t even give spending their day on the sidewalk a second thought. With General Admission concerts, the closer they are to the front of the line, the closer they can get to the front of the stage! Time and again, fans have shown that Louis Tomlinson is worth that wait. For me, since there isn’t a Utah stop this go around, he’s worth a flight to Washington to catch the Seattle show part of his Faith In The Future World Tour!

When Logic announced The College Park Tour, many were shocked at the venues he had chosen to visit. After selling out venues all over the country, including the prestigious Madison Square Garden, it was surprising that he went much smaller for this tour. Logic actually ended up explaining why he did this in between songs on stage. Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, (Logic) explained that he missed the more intimate shows. He missed being there with the fans and actually being able to see and interact with his fans. Bringing along Juicy J, the space inside The Union Event Center was very limited. The atmosphere was like no other show I had seen at this venue before.

As he continues his exciting headline tour, Benson Boone absolutely killed the stage in Salt Lake City. Bringing along Nicky Youre, the show was one of the best to visit the Union Event Center. It was a night full of energy and amazing music. Benson recently has gained a lot of traction in the music world with help from TikTok. He has become one of the best upcoming stars to enter the scene. Although his hometown is in Washington, you would have thought he was from Utah by the way the crowd showed up for him.

Thrice played at the Union Event Center in Salt Lake City Tuesday, June 13th. They brought along with them Holy Fawn as the opening set. I didn’t really know much about the opening band except that they guest appeared on Thrice’s re-recorded album “The Artist in the Ambulance.” in the song “Paper Tigers” which the re-recording has a much fuller sound. It’s a good one to compare side by side and notice the small differences.

Ringo Starr and His All-Starr band brought their one-of-a-kind show to Utah on Tuesday, June 13th. As a Beatles fan, this is a show I didn’t want to miss. I was excited for the opportunity to attend the sold-out concert at Salt Lake City’s Eccles Theater.

I always feel a little cliché when people ask me who my favorite band is, and my answer is The Beatles. Who doesn’t love the Beatles? They have been my favorite band for as long as I can remember. There’s rarely a day that goes by that I don’t listen to at least one of their songs. If you walked into my home, you would see tributes to them in the decorations on my walls. To really prove how much I love them, I also have a custom license plate that is the title of one of my favorite Beatles songs. Cliché or not, they have always been, and will always be my favorite band. Having the opportunity to not only attend, but photograph Ringo Starrs’s concert was an incredible experience.
