Dayglow is a one man band that needs no introduction here in Salt Lake City. With a strong fan base in the area, he sold out The Union quite easily. He also brought along Utah native, Ritt Momney. Although Dayglow already had a decent following here, it definitely helped to bring along a local artist.

On Tuesday, October 18th, Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs brought their tour in support of the band’s new album External Combustion, to the Commonwealth Room in Salt Lake City. Even if you have never heard Mike Campbell’s name before, you are likely already familiar with many of his songs. In his over 40 years as lead guitarist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Campbell co-wrote many songs with Petty. Including “Runnin’ Down a Dream” and “Refugee.” As an incredibly talented guitar player, Campbell also played on studio albums for other artists including Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks, and Johnny Cash. After Tom Petty passed away, Mike Campbell continued to find opportunities to play for a crowd. Including his time spent on tour with Fleetwood Mac.

The Union had a completely sold out show on Monday, October 17th when they hosted Conan Gray. Conan has been making his mark on the music industry for quite some time but has recently been picking up even more attention with the release of a new album. His tour and new album share the title Superache. He brought along Baby Queen to support him on this tour. Baby Queen is a newer artist from England that I hadn’t heard of before the show. She was a perfect fit to open for Conan.

The Union Event Center hosted Carly Rae Jepsen on The So Nice Tour. With support from Empress Of, Carly brought a lot of energy to Salt Lake City. Although not a super crowded show, there were still many avid fans who were clearly enjoying their time there that night. Carly’s fanbase seems to be heavily populated with members of the LGBTQ+ community. There were a large number of people there from this community. Although this may have not been the most popular concert at this venue, it was still a good time for those in attendance.

Alexander 23 brought out a solid crowd to The Complex this past week. With support from Renforshort and Grace Enger, there was plenty of music to be entertained by. It is always fun to have a show with 3 artists performing. Especially when they all have such entertaining sets. This was my second time seeing Renforshort, however, I had never seen Alexander 23 or Grace live. I actually wasn’t aware that Grace was performing until I arrived at the show, which was a pleasant surprise.

UCR on Tour

It seems like any trip I’ve taken recently has been to see an artist that wasn’t stopping in Utah. Which is surprising considering all of the great concerts that come through our state! There are some tours I just won’t miss no matter where it’ll take me. Ringo Starr’s show was one of those. As a lifelong Beatles fan, I’ve been hoping for the chance to see him for what seems like my entire life. This time my concert travels took me to my home state of Washington. I had the honor of photographing Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band in Seattle! Since they weren’t making it down to us on this tour, Utah Concert Review happily went to them!

With yet another sold out show in Salt Lake, The Union supported Alec Benjamin and Claire Rosinkranz on Alec’s 2022 Tour. Both artists are on the rise currently, and don’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. Alec Benjamin is a little more established as he has been popular for a while. However, that doesn’t mean he isn’t still rising in popularity. Claire on the other hand has been a recent trend, with multiple songs blowing up on social media in the past couple years. I was very excited for both artists, as I have listened to them both a decent amount. I was also very excited to visit The Union again. It is one of my favorite venues in the Salt Lake area.

Leaving many fans claiming the Knotfest was Utah’s best night of metal so far this year. While I had never been to a Slipknot show before this one, I was aware of their reputation for putting on an incredible live performance. Friday, September 30th, marked the end of the 2022 Twilight Summer Concert Series. Band of Horses performed an awesome show to wrap up an already incredible season of concerts. The South Carolina-based indie rock band was not originally included in the lineup for the summer series. Their show was added to the schedule shortly after Rainbow Kitten Surprise, unfortunately, had to cancel what would have been the first concert for the season. Local band Dad Bod was originally scheduled to open for Rainbow Kitten Surprise. I imagine it must have been disappointing for them when their original show was canceled. I was happy to see they were given the opportunity to open for Band Of Horses. The Gallivan center was filled with excited fans, ready to enjoy the final concert of another epic summer of Twilight Concerts.
