Alexander 23 brought out a solid crowd to The Complex this past week. With support from Renforshort and Grace Enger, there was plenty of music to be entertained by. It is always fun to have a show with 3 artists performing. Especially when they all have such entertaining sets. This was my second time seeing Renforshort, however, I had never seen Alexander 23 or Grace live. I actually wasn’t aware that Grace was performing until I arrived at the show, which was a pleasant surprise.

UCR on Tour

It seems like any trip I’ve taken recently has been to see an artist that wasn’t stopping in Utah. Which is surprising considering all of the great concerts that come through our state! There are some tours I just won’t miss no matter where it’ll take me. Ringo Starr’s show was one of those. As a lifelong Beatles fan, I’ve been hoping for the chance to see him for what seems like my entire life. This time my concert travels took me to my home state of Washington. I had the honor of photographing Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band in Seattle! Since they weren’t making it down to us on this tour, Utah Concert Review happily went to them!

With yet another sold out show in Salt Lake, The Union supported Alec Benjamin and Claire Rosinkranz on Alec’s 2022 Tour. Both artists are on the rise currently, and don’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. Alec Benjamin is a little more established as he has been popular for a while. However, that doesn’t mean he isn’t still rising in popularity. Claire on the other hand has been a recent trend, with multiple songs blowing up on social media in the past couple years. I was very excited for both artists, as I have listened to them both a decent amount. I was also very excited to visit The Union again. It is one of my favorite venues in the Salt Lake area.

Iconic Metal band Slipknot brought their Knotfest Roadshow to the USANA Amphitheatre on October 4th. With Ice Nine Kills as the opener, the two bands pulled off an unforgettable night with some seriously impressive visual displays. The energy they brought with them to Salt Lake was unbeatable. Leaving many fans claiming the Knotfest was Utah’s best night of metal so far this year. While I had never been to a Slipknot show before this one, I was aware of their reputation for putting on an incredible live performance. Even after arriving with high expectations, I still left the night amazed by their show.

Final SLC Twilight of 2022

Friday, September 30th, marked the end of the 2022 Twilight Summer Concert Series. Band of Horses performed an awesome show to wrap up an already incredible season of concerts. The South Carolina-based indie rock band was not originally included in the lineup for the summer series. Their show was added to the schedule shortly after Rainbow Kitten Surprise, unfortunately, had to cancel what would have been the first concert for the season. Local band Dad Bod was originally scheduled to open for Rainbow Kitten Surprise. I imagine it must have been disappointing for them when their original show was canceled. I was happy to see they were given the opportunity to open for Band Of Horses. The Gallivan center was filled with excited fans, ready to enjoy the final concert of another epic summer of Twilight Concerts.

A Tremendous Evening with Jackson Browne• September 23, 2022• Sandy Amphitheater

The Sandy Amphitheatre was privileged to host “An Evening with Jackson Browne” on Friday the 23rd of September. And it was special. It had been over four years (July 2018) since Utah was last treated to this type of Jackson Browne experience.

Jackson did pay us a visit last October (2021) accompanying his good friend James Taylor. But his opening set from that show was more of an appetizer to nibble on. The “Evening with Jackson Browne” was more comparable to a Thanksgiving feast for ears and soul.

When an artist has to postpone or even cancel a performance, a lot has to go into the decision. Not only does it impact the people who were originally planning on attending the show, but now the tour, the venue, any VIP reps hired for the show, and the promotion company are scrambling to find a solution that can benefit everyone at the end of the day. Oftentimes, artists and the venue cannot find a date to reschedule and the show is canceled and folks are refunded.

Almost close to nothing beats a good summer concert for any music fan. A nice summer breeze, 80-degree weather out in the open with a slight breeze here and there, and great live music. As thousands gathered at USANA Amphitheater on September 20th  for the “ODESZA: THE LAST GOODBYE TOUR”, one thing was clear, Utah was going to show up and party. Even on a Tuesday night. Along with headliner ODESZA, the tour brought NASAYA, Elderbrook, and duo Sylvan Esso to sing and dance with the crowd. All and all, the lights went on until they could no longer run. And the audience left with their minds blown.
