Tuesday evening punk-rock fans gathered at The Commonwealth Room in Salt Lake City to attend The Void Eternal tour by Emo-Rapper Joe Mulherin, better known as nothing, nowhere. Before his set, SeeYouSpaceCowboy performed a very intense screamo set. Frontwoman Connie Sgarbossa sang and screamed her heart out. Their music came from a place of pain as they covered songs touching on heartbreak and substance abuse/addiction. While it may not be everyone’s cup of tea the rock fans in the building were loving it! They covered songs such as “bloodstainedeyes” and “Misinterpreting Constellations”.
After the set by SeeYouSpaceCowboy nothing, nowhere came out to a really cool entrance. The rapper/rock singer performed THIRST4VIOLENCE a really intense and crowd hyping song. Connie from SeeYouSpaceCowboy then made her return to the stage to perform PSYHO_PSYCHIATRY with Joe. The two performed well together and the crowd was loving it!
While many of the songs were off of his latest album VOID ETERNAL, nothing, nowhere played some older songs off of albums such as Trauma Factory and ruiner. His stage presence was extremely prominent and crushed the rap parts and then would rock the stage like a rockstar for the more punk-type songs. One of my favorite moments was during Joe’s performance of CYAN1DE, I just love that song and it just really hit home.
While the beginning of the set was good it was the second half that I really enjoyed. He finished with the more emotional hit Pieces of You right before switching the energy completely with a cover of Linkin Park’s One Step Closer. With the energy still sky high, he finished off the show with Skully and of course the song that brought him mainstream success in hammer. Rock fans were treated to a great night!
