On August 10, The Loveland Living Planet Aquarium in Draper hosted its first big concert underneath the EECO.  And what more fitting band to perform under the massive structure than Hollywood U2? In case you weren’t aware, the EECO structure was once the stage for legendary rock band, U2 on their 360º Tour.  A tour that stopped by Salt Lake City at Rice-Eccles Stadium on May 24, 2011.  For many U2 fans, it was a way to remember that memorable evening back in 2011.  For The Loveland Living Planet Aquarium, it was the perfect match to bring people to see a new show in a new place.  It was a win-win for everyone.

August 9th marked an electrifying evening at the Sandy Amphitheater, where Texas country-rock sensation Koe Wetzel brought his “Damn Near Normal” tour to life, with Kolby Cooper warming up the stage as the opener. The concert was a dynamic blend of raw energy, lyrical depth, and Southern charm, making it an unforgettable night for fans.

Ogden Twilight hasn’t been pulling any of their punches when it comes to insane show lineups. Diplo, St. Vincent, and Killer Mike making an appearance to name a few. But this particular show has been a big mark on my calendar for quite some time. Having indie-rock favorite Hippo Campus and hip-hop star Killer Mike perform on the same day was one that initially confused me. I was eager to see it nevertheless.

It was an epic scene out at Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre.  It wasn’t just a sold-out crowd.  That would be awesome on its own.  But there was a buzz in the air I had not felt in some time.  There had been an anticipation for the show the moment it was announced.  I don’t remember a show being talked about quite so much.  If I wore my I Was/ I Am Tour shirt out of the house, someone for sure would compliment me and ask me if I was going to the show.  It was so exciting to walk into Utah First Amp and see all the excitement.

It felt very fitting to be at an outdoor concert on the evening of the Summer Solstice.  But not just any outdoor concert. That alone would have been great.  But Old Crow Medicine show performing at the Sandy Amphitheater on the eve of a full Strawberry Moon on the Summer Solstice was an evening of perfection for an avid concertgoer like myself.  Old Crow Medicine Show returned to Utah just shy of a year since their last stop here in July 2023. The band would be celebrating 25 years of their album Jubilee.

“This is the biggest concert I’ve ever played at in the US.”

Just eight months ago, Laufey was performing at The Depot in front of a couple hundred fans. Now she’s selling out venues and hosting the largest shows of her career. Her performance at The Gallivan Center on June 21st marked yet another milestone for the Icelandic-Chinese artist who described it as her biggest concert in the US to date.

It was good to be back at Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre (Formerly USANA Ampitheatre).  The night before we were in attendance for the Utah return of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.  And while the vibe was completely different, the excitement level was comparable.  The great Sarah McLachlan brought her Fumbling Towards Ecstacy 30th Anniversary Tour to Utah and people were in a celebratory mood. The majority of the crowd arrived early to hang out, grab a bite or a drink, and socialize.  Fans were ready for a night of great music with some incredible voices.

This might have been the biggest concert event of the 2024 summer.  If anything it got the Utah concert summer concert season off to a rousing start! I like to think of this like the Daytona 500.  It’s NASCAR’s biggest event. But unlike the Super Bowl, it’s the first race in the season. Country Music megastar, Luke Combs brought his Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old Tour to Utah for a two-night residency at Rice-Eccles Stadium on the campus of the University of Utah.  The stadium was jam-packed with Country Music fans on both nights.  I was fortunate to attend night two on Saturday, June 8.

On Wednesday, June 5 the Red Hot Chili Peppers brought their Unlimited Love tour to Utah’s First Amphitheatre. It was no surprise that the show quickly sold out. Utah fans have waited 18 long years for the band to return. Their last concert in Utah was in 2006, Their performance was the 3rd to last concert at the original Delta Center before the name changed to Energy Solutions Arena. I found it interesting that their long-awaited return to Utah marked the 3rd concert at the newly named Utah First Amphitheatre (formerly USANA Amphitheatre.)
