On the morning of February 9th, Park City experienced a monster of a snowstorm which naturally drew me in with a day filled with powder skiing. I genuinely had one of my best days skiing and right as I was about to take my well-deserved nap, planning on taking the rest of the day off. I got a notification on my phone reminding me that my day wasn’t over. The Kills’s “God Games” tour was rolling by the Union and I immediately got a spike of pre-concert energy.

Schellraiser Festival

Schellraiser Music Festival – McGill, Nevada | June 2-5, 2022

Though Nevada’s northeastern region remains one of the West’s best kept secrets, the towns of McGill and nearby Ely pull an ace out of the sleeve with the new Schellraiser Music Festival. The festival’s name is adopted from the neighboring Schell Creek mountain range and imbues its mission to fundraise for a local cause. This year: the Nevada Northern Railway’s work to restore locomotives and expand the historic rail’s footprint.

The Paranoyds February 14, 2020, Kilby Court

After opening for Tacocat last year at Kilby, The Paranoyds made their way back to SLC in support of their first album Carnage Bargain, described on the group’s Bandcamp page as “a raucous blend of garage rock grit, new wave swagger, horror film soundtrack campiness, and a myriad of other influences.” Their live show gave a glimpse into this “myriad,” made evident in their tangible 1960’s Batman theme-esque guitar riffs, their reverberating synth accents, and infinite rhythms that rattle around in your head and never seem to leave.
